Theological Research and Publication Including Web-Based And Hard Copy
Publication of Articles, Books, and Educational Materials:
Renewing Christianity is a Christian theology research and education organization. We examine
questions of contemporary spiritual and social life both and engage those questions with theological
research within the orthodox Christian tradition. That research takes the form of academic papers, short
articles posted online or published in journals, multimedia presentations and published books. The goal
of this research is to connect the social, spiritual, and existential significance of historic Christian teaching
and practice with the present spiritual and social context. Concurrent with producing theological
educational publications, Renewing Christianity also creates devotional materials (such as prayers,
liturgies, mediations, suggested orders of worship) as practical spiritual applications of its theological
research.
Those papers, articles multimedia presentations and books form the basis for teaching materials and
curriculum for churches, pastors, social workers, and other non-profit organizations that are engaging the
questions of contemporary spiritual and social life that we are investigating. Devotional materials are also
provided to the public and to organizations that wish to use them in religious services.
We also intend to produce thoughtful postings, articles, short essays, and columns and digital video fit for
online web-blogs (blogs). These pieces are usually meditations on subjects of interest in the Christian
community or discussion pieces on traditional or early formulations of Christian theology that have
survived in church liturgies, hymns, and other sources of communal practice. The blog format permits the
public to converse with Renewing Christianity’s researchers and writers and each other as we explore and
engage biblical and historically orthodox Christian theology with the intent to connect that theology to
contemporary spiritual and social life.
Renewing Christianity plans to develop a peer reviewed academic journal in which academic research
produced by the staff, fellows and interns of Renewing Christianity, theological reflections and
commentary, literary and visual art with spiritual implications, and guest submissions. This journal would
be available in print form for universities, seminaries, churches, and the public at large. It would be
produced at least once annually.
Public Seminars, Workshops, Panel Discussions and Forums:
We cooperate with other 501(C)3 organizations to put on workshops and seminars open to the public.
These workshops and seminars are educational forums where we present our teaching materials and
curriculum. Moreover, in these settings we sponsor panel discussions and information forums that allow
meaningful engagement and conversation between persons vocationally engaged in field work in the
focus areas we are investigating and the public at large. These public events also allow Renewing
Christianity to converse and cooperate with members of other religions in public inter-faith dialogue on
issues of common concern. Often these public events will be digitally recorded so that they can be
formulated into multimedia presentations that can be provided to interested parties that were not able to
attend.
These public seminars, workshops, panel discussions and forums are significant because they assist the
organization in educating the public about the content of our research, receiving feedback from the public
regarding the effectiveness of our educational materials, and providing an opportunity for other members
of the community to dialogue with us and other members of the public about issue of contemporary
spiritual and social life.
A Fellowship and Internship Program:
Renewing Christianity intends to operate a fellowship and internship program under the direction of its
Executive Committee. The fellowship program would offer one to two (1-2) year research and writing
fellowships to graduates of both undergraduate and graduate university academic programs and persons
in professional life. Those whose field of work directly engages a compelling question of contemporary
spiritual and social life will also be eligible to apply. These fellowships would allow persons who wish to
investigate a compelling question of contemporary spiritual or social importance a living stipend and an
academic environment to research and publish in Renewing Christianity’s peer reviewed academic journal.
The intern program would offer semester long or summer term internships to undergraduate and
graduate students. These internships would provide opportunities for short term research and writing
projects as well as assistance with every day operations of the organization.

and the advancement of religion by: (1) giving Christian graduates an opportunity to uses their skills and
educational training in the service of Christian Education; and (2) providing Renewing Christianity with a
fresh and invigorated research and writing staff drawn directly from the academic and professional
communities.

These resources will seek to reclaim, articulate, and advance the essence of Christianity, which affirms life, love, courage and creativity, liberation, empowerment, justice, compassion, non-violence, forgiveness, responsibility, intimacy with God, and egalitarian community with one another. |
